Thu 11th Jul 2019 : Fantastic Year of FoM!
We are extremely fortunate to have a very strong, dynamic Parent Association, Friends of the Mead.
The aim and essence of FoM, as the association is fondly known, is to run fun events that bring the school community together outside the classroom, whilst raising funds to enhance the education and experience of all our pupils.
This past year FoM has put on some fantastic events which have been hugely enjoyed by the whole school community.
The new committee for 2018-2019, Emma Kent (Chair), Alice Patience (Vice Chair), Tammy McIntosh (Secretary) and Kate Glover (Treasurer), kicked off an amazing year with a fun Movie Night for the children and drinks for the grown-ups. The children loved watching 'Peter Rabbit' & munching on popcorn with all their friends whilst parents met new friends and chatted with existing ones over drinks and nibbles in the dining room.
The Winter Fayre was a fantastic festive day for all the family with our traditional favourites jolly jam jars, santa's grotto and the themed hamper raffle being joined by some fab new attractions this time such as slime station, photobooth, a performance from our school choir and a snow machine!
The FoM Quiz Night 'joyraiser' brightened up a cold, wet February night with the fun and sociable evening challenging guests with an excellent selection of questions to stimulate that grey matter and delicious cheeseboards keeping all refuelled.
The school gym was transformed into a super-cool disco with an amazing display of colourful lights for the FoM 'Glow Disco'. Children from Kindergarten to Year 6, kitted out in top to toe neon, had a fantastic time bopping away to their favourite tunes with their pals and competing for prizes such as best 'flosser'!
The children had an 'eggs-cellent' time at the Easter activity organised and run by FoM. The children took part in a fun treasure hunt and anagram puzzle challenge with chocoate egg treats for all. The highlight of the morning was a special visit from a giant bunny who strangely enough was exactly the same height as Mr Webster!
FoM's event of the year was a brand new one for this summer - Meadfest: The Greatest Show. An enormous success, the sell-out event was an amazing day of live music, delicious food and drink, fun activities for the children with a relaxed and fun festival vibe.
Not only have the children (and the parents/teachers) had a blast at these events, but FoM have also been spending the money on items for all the children to use and benefit from. This year FoM have purchased a 3D Printer, basketball nets, springboard and vault for gymnastics, mud kitchen for reception, loose parts play/sandpit for the playground, magazine subscriptions including National Geographic, First News and Aquila, a full range of instruments/access to a musical website for Mr Liddle and playground games/storage as requested by the school council. FoM is currently looking at and discussing with Mr Webster ideas for future funding projects for the next academic year and this will be addressed further at the FoM AGM on Wednesday 18th September (we hope to see you there!).
Looking ahead to September and a new school year, the committee welcomes a new treasurer on board (Paul Blackwell-Leach) and has lots of exciting ideas in the pipeline for the year ahead. They are looking forward to the Family Fun Run on Saturday 14th September at Bayham Playing Fields and hope you can join them for this fun family day (open to all - you don't have to be a runner!). Tickets are now available from the FoM website here.
FoM and class reps will also be welcoming new parents for an informal coffee in the dining room after drop off on the first day of term (Wednesday 4th September) so do come along if you are new to the school - getting involved with FoM is a wonderful way of getting to know other parents and to get involved in the school community.
In the meantime, as this year draws to a close, we want to say an enormous thank you to our wonderful FoM for a truly brilliant year of events and for the awesome new additions to our school which are being enjoyed by all our Meadites.
