Tue 12th Mar 2019 : Code Club at The Mead
We are very excited to be one of the few schools in Kent now offering a Code Club to our pupils.
Code Club is an international initiative and aims to provide opportunities for children aged 9-13 to develop coding skills.
Volunteer programmers and software developers give their time to run Code Club sessions, passing on their programming skills and mentoring the students. Children create their own computer games, animations and websites, learning how to use technology creatively.
For our first session at The Mead the children took apart a vintage computer that was brought in by Mr Bob Vale, our Code Club volunteer. The children were fascinated to look at and handle all the pieces and find out how they work together to build a computer.
The club, run by STEAM Co-ordinator and teacher Mrs Gemma Wilson, will be focusing on celebrating and developing the students' love for computer science and they have chosen to start by to learning HTML.
