Mon 4th Feb 2019 : Snowy Investigation into Climate Change for Year 2!
Our young scientists in Class 2W took advantage of the recent cold-snap for an intriguing investigation into climate change!
The class investigated how greenhouse gases heat up our earth in a special experiment involving lego and snow.
The children constructed lego houses, which they placed in separate trays and then put a mound of snow (fresh from the playground!) next to each.
One tray was covered with clingfilm to represent the warming effect of greenhouse gases and the other was left uncovered. The trays were then put into the sunshine and were timed to see how long each took to melt.
The children observed that the tray with the cling film melted more rapidly and were surprised to discover that cling film could make such a difference. An excellent demonstration and lesson of the impact greenhouse gases can have on our Earth and our rainforests.
