Thu 29th Nov 2018 : Ancient Greece Comes to Life for Year 4
Year 4 were transported back in time to Ancient Greece for an interactive day of discovery about life in the years from the Greek Dark Ages (12th-9th Centuries BC-600 AD).
The workshop brought the Agora market and meeting place of ancient Athens to life with temples, priests & philosophers in our school gym!
The children, dressed as ancient Greeks, took part in sacrifices, libations, fighting, marching and even spoke some Greek!
They took a close look at some real, original ancient Greek artefacts including objects of worship, a selection of coins and a rare dolphin shaped coin that is around 2000 years old!
The chldren also enjoyed having a go at creating their own versions of the Elgin Marbles by carving individual pieces of soft stone.
The workshop was educational as well as fun and covered the following areas of the curriculum: ancient civilisations, different historical sources and interpretation, archaeology, drama and empathy.
All the school enjoyed a delicious Greek lunch of moussaka, chicken pittas, houmous, tzatziki and greek salad cooked by Anita and her team. Some of the pupils said it was the best meal they'd ever eaten!
A huge thanks to Living History workshops for providing such an engaging, enjoyable and educational day for our Year 4 pupils.
