Tue 6th Feb 2018 : Tweet-Tastic Topic for Kindy & Pre-Reception
A little bird tell us that Pre-Reception and Kindergarten have been bird-spotting from their newly built Twitter's Hut, creating beautiful bird-themed crafts and spending time with a new special feathery friend!
Inspired by our recent Eco-Club RSPB Birdwatch project, Pre-Reception and Kindergarten have been finding out lots more about our local birdlife.
The children have been learning how to spot birds outside, listen for them and make a record of what they'd seen and heard. They discovered our school playground attracts many local birds (especially after playtime when there are some rich pickings of breadstick crumbs on offer!). The children spotted lots of magpies, crows, blackbirds, pigeons, robins and even heard some seagulls overhead!
Our Pre-Reception and Kindergarten children made a new feathered friend - the very pretty Lavender the budgie. Lavender, who is Clemmie's pet, made a big impact on the children and they had lots of fun talking to her and trying to communicate with her. Lavender spent a few days in the classroom which was a wonderful way for the children to learn more about the different sounds birds make and to observe her feathers up close. They were fascinated by how she sang more when they were quiet!
The children also built an outdoor Twitter's Hut for bird-spotting, used their number skills to make bird counting graphs, made binoculars, bird feeders and lard cakes, went on a worm hunt, created beautiful clay birds and birds in nests and have all contributed to fantastic Bird Books - adding drawings, writing and photos.
Do come and see the children's wonderful bird themed creations and topic books - currently on display in our front reception.
