Tue 7th Nov 2017 : Christmas Creativity for Year 5
It's a very busy time of year in the Art Department here at The Mead! Head of Art Mrs Latty leads Key Stage 2 in their festive art projects every year: Year 3 are making beautiful Christmas trees, Year 4 are designing advent calendars and Year 6 are making their own baubles which will adorn their class Christmas tree.
Today Year 5 have been busy working on their seasonal project - designing, building and decorating a festive house and garden. All the pupils have come up with their own 3D designs. There are no limits to how creative the children can be with their projects - current designs include a log cabin, snow covered fir trees, a snowman, festive fairy lights made of tissue paper and even a catflap!
Mrs Latty said: "The children absolutely love working on these projects. It's a chance for them to really use their imaginations and creativity and develop their design skills as they have to think carefully about the best tools and materials to use. When I first set the projects they often look at me with a worried expression, but they really surprise themselves with what they can do and it gives them a real sense of achievement and builds confidence in their own abilities. They look at me and say 'Wow, I did that!'"
